What is the shape of the world? Round. Right?
So there will be a line running in the middle. The Equator. And I am going to show you . . .
Ecuador
Hola! (Hello in Spanish)
Ecuador is a country where crazy physics happens. Where tourists can try to walk on the equator and they will fall. When you pour water in the basin, it won't spin clockwise or anti-clockwise, but it will go straight down because of the Coriolis effect.
There is even Mount Chimborazo right in the middle of the equator.
Ecuador is not just mountains but also islands. The Galapagos islands in the middle of the Pacific Ocean are mostly untouched and there are species you will not find anywhere else in the world.
Equator: An imaginary line which passes through the middle of the earth.
Physics: Physics is a part of science that tells us about the things that happen around us like gravity and buoyancy.
Mount Chimborazo: A mountain in Ecuador (the highest) which is closer to the sun than the tallest mountain on earth: Mount Everest.
Galapagos islands: An archipelago in the middle of the ocean.
Pacific Ocean: An ocean that means "peaceful".
Coriolis effect: An effect of water which occurs at the equator.
(B) Just a fun fact
Ecuador's capital: Quito is the 2nd highest capital in the world.
(C) Wonder!
In the Galapagos islands there are over 9,000 species living
(D) Quiz
- What is the capital of Ecuador?
- What is the highest capital in the world? Hint: It is in South America.
Answers
